Learning and innovation go hand in hand

The end of a year always makes me think of the road ahead.  What am I doing today to ensure that I am the best possible me tomorrow?

One of my clients really brought this home for me.  As usual I moved myself into the conference room to train a group of hungry new Sales Consultants, but towards the end of the week the General Manager asked me to start my training later, because he needed the room for an hour in the morning.  I am always a little irritated when I feel like I am losing time to help people, so I asked why I had to forfeit the time?  It was for an hour of Bible study.

Some of you may have guessed from my last name, but I am not Christian, so why is an hour of Bible study so impressive to me?  It is the caring for the future of the employees.  Reading, discussing, and learning create better minds and better minds create better employees.

Here is a quote below to illustrate my point:

Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow. William Pollard

Creative minds fix problems, find profit, ultimately they are the engines of a healthy bottom line.  The mental well-being of our employees and ourselves is the single greatest investment we can make.

In that light I am going to post a suggested reading each week.  Every Thursday night sounds good to me, starting tonight.  First suggestion is a book I mention in my training regularly “The One Minute Sales Person” by Spencer Johnson.

Great short book, on the psychology of selling.  Great idea going forward to start a Dealership library with a weekly book club meeting.
