I just watched the craziest greeting of a prospective client on a car lot I have seen (not in a good way either).
The Sales Consultant watched the client from about 100 feet away. Being very careful to stay out of the line of sight, so as to not have to answer any questions. I watched this go on for 5 minutes, I actually started timing it. Client took a few steps around cars, looking them over, or as car folks like to say “licking the paint”, and the Sales Consultant would take equal and opposite steps to avoid contact.
Finally I think the Sales Consultant noticed I was watching and decided to approach the couple. From approximately 50 feet away with his arms crossed, he called over and asked “You need anything?”
If all this wasn’t bad enough, at this time the Manager pulled up in his demo and parked right next to the cars the prospective clients were looking at. Did the Manager offer to help? Did he ask the Sales Consultant what was going on? Did he come inside and at least log that the Consultant had a prospective client? A big fat no! Just walked by the prospective clients, the Sales Consultant, the Sales Desk, and plopped his lunch down on his desk.
In closing one of the other Sales Consultants and Managers were complaining about not having any traffic. Go figure, shameless plug, yes I can fix that!
